Uppu Urundai

Uppu urundai/ Uppu kozhukattai is a traditional recipes made during Vinayagar chathurti  Its also known as modakam in Tamil and  Modak in marathi. We can make this modak with different fillings. Below is the easiest & tastiest recipe can be made with less ingrdients.

Ingredients:

Raw rice/ Rice flour - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Salt - ½tsp or to taste
Oil - 1 tsp

For Seasoning

Mustard - 1tsp
Hing- ½tsp
Red Chile - 2
Channa Dal - 1tbs
Coconut - 2 tbs
Curry leaves - required
Oil - 1 tsp

           

Preparations:
For Dough :
Wash & soak rice for 1 hour and grind it in to fine paste in mixer using ½ cup water.
Adjust water as required.
Boil 1cup of water with salt and oil.
When water starts boiling,  reduce the heat and add grind ed rice paste to the water.
Stir continuously to avoid burning at the bottom.
Turn off the stove and leave it for 10 mins to cool.
Wet your hands and knead the dough gently to form a soft dough.  Keep it aside.
Make sure it is not to hot.
Same procedure can be followed With rice flour.
  
Heat the kadai or skillet and add mustard, let it to splutter then add remaing ingredients and stir untill it becomes golden colour.

Add this seasoning to the dough & mix it throughly.

  • Take Small lemon size portion from the dough & make it in to round dumplings.
    Do the same with rest of the dough.
    Steam all the dumplings in Idly cooker or in a steamer for 10 to 15 mts in medium heat.
    Allow it to cool & transfer to serving bowl.
    Serve with any chutney.
